Hi!
My name is Mathew Hampton and I am a first year student in the PDDP secondary program at UVIC. IĀ am really excited to begin this journey and hope that everyone else is as well. I grew up in Victoria and have been here for most of my life. However, I was actually born in Japan. I am half Chinese and half Canadian, despite being born in Japan. This aspect of my life has led me to be very interested in teaching ELL or ESL, and I hope to be learning more about it this semester. I am a former varsity athlete and sports has been a huge part of my life. I hope to give back and continue to coach sports teams as I begin my journey as an educator.
After the first class, I am a little overwhelmed, as probably shown by the timing of this blog post. I would say I am not incompetent with technology, but the sheer volume of platforms that seem to be necessary now in the classroom is very daunting. From checking my both my emails, Mattermost, Brightspace and Google Classroom etc. It seems like more than I have ever had to be conscious of. At the same time it is exciting to realize how many things are actually out there and how many ways and platforms I will eventually be able to use in my job as an educator, but also In my everyday life.
